Brooklyn, with its significant population, surprisingly doesn’t boast a multitude of breweries. However, hidden amidst this borough is one of the finest establishments, known as Keg and Lantern Brewing.
Situated in the vibrant Greenpoint district of Brooklyn, New York, Keg and Lantern Brewing is conveniently located just a stone’s throw away from the Nassau Avenue subway station on the G line.
Since its opening in 2014, this brewery has rapidly garnered a loyal following within the neighborhood. Keg and Lantern exudes a unique ambiance, blending the characteristics of an Irish pub and a sports bar. It particularly thrives on Sundays during football season, making it advisable to steer clear if you’re seeking a quiet drink or bite to eat.
I personally visited Keg and Lantern Brewing on a Tuesday evening, and even though it was a weeknight, the place was bustling during dinnertime.
During my visit, I was delighted to discover a selection of 16 beers on tap, with approximately twelve of them being their own brews. The beer menu offered a wide range of styles, including some uncommon choices like Schwarzbier and barrel-aged sour red.
After perusing their menu, which can be described as refined pub fare, I decided to indulge in their Tuesday special—a burger, fries, and a beer for an affordable $14. It struck me as excellent value for a meal in a New York City restaurant.
For my beer selection, I opted for the Gastronomical IPA, which was described on the list as a soft and hazy IPA.
To be completely honest, the beer had a slightly sharp taste on my initial sip. However, as I gradually adjusted my palate, I began to appreciate the beer’s fruity flavors.
What truly impressed me about this brew was the unique blend of hops it incorporated. In fact, a few of the hop varieties used were completely unfamiliar to me.
Moving on to the food, my order arrived promptly and was generously portioned, even at the regular menu price.
The burger itself was incredibly delicious and cooked precisely as I had requested. Accompanying the burger was a chipotle aioli, which added a flavorful touch without being excessively spicy.
As much as I savored the burger, the real star of the meal was the fries. Keg and Lantern takes pride in hand-cutting their fries and seasoning them to perfection. Undeniably, these were some of the most exceptional fries I’ve had in a long time.
All in all, I had an exceptional dining experience at Keg and Lantern Brewing Company. While it may not be the absolute best brewery I’ve visited in New York City, I thoroughly enjoyed their beer selection. Combine that with their enticing dinner specials and delectable food, and you have a definite recommendation for a memorable meal while exploring Brooklyn.
